Mariano Acuña graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in 1994 and returned to Mexico to complete his Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. While Mariano planned to pursue a career in diplomacy, life had a better plan for him. Life had planned for him to meet Jenka in 1994 and then marry her three years later. Jenka and Mariano moved to Oklahoma in 1998. Mariano later graduated from the Dedman School of Law at SMU in 2003, and since then has dedicated his career to helping people. Previously a defense attorney for insurance companies, in 2007 Mariano decided to change the direction of his career and chose instead to represent individuals who have suffered injuries through no fault of their own. Mariano cares deeply about his clients. He understands that his clients work tirelessly to protect their families; therefore, he knows that he too must fight tirelessly to protect his clients. Mariano was taught at a young age that charity and compassion are the foundation of a healthy family and community. Adhering to his calling for community service, Mariano has been a pro bono panel attorney for Legal Aid of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Lawyers for Children. For the past decade, Mariano has served on the board of directors of Variety Care, Oklahoma’s largest community health center, serving nearly 100,000 Oklahomans annually. He is also currently a member of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. What he is most proud of is his family’s effort to help Oklahoma youth continue their education through the Acuña Family Scholarship, which awards a $10,000 scholarship to a deserving young person who has demonstrated commitment and dedication to their professional development and to their community.
Mariano and Jenka have been married for 22 years and have three wonderful daughters. Alexa attends OU, where she is preparing for medical school. Isabella is a standout artist at her school, and Sofia is a passionate tennis player. Isabella will soon conquer the art world, while Alexa and Sofia plan careers in medicine, following in the footsteps of their grandfather, or “Tata” as they called him. The Acuña family has a passion for travel and good food.
